Icy road season is off to a strong start this year with southbound lanes of Interstate 95 closing Tuesday after a tractor trailer jack-knifed, running 30 vehicles off the road in an attempt to avoid collision, according to Bangor Daily News. Traffic was rerouted from the stretch of highway between Etna and Newport after 2+ inches of snow fell, kicking off our yearly grief of icy road season.

Some people suffered minor injuries as a result of the crashes according to Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

This isn't the first time snowy roads around August and Bangor have caused dozens of drivers grief at once. Notably, BDN remembers the 100-car pileup from a few years ago.

Luckily, no drivers were killed in yesterday's crash but that's not always the case. Be alert, buckle up, and drive safe out there!
