Woman Wanted in Rochester, NH Crashes Pick Up in Maine
A woman sought by Rochester police in connection with a stolen pick up Ford truck was arrested in Maine on Monday after leading police on chase in a different truck and colliding head-on with a car on the Falmouth Spur of the Maine Turnpike.
Rochester police issued a warrant on Sunday for Mary Jo Hefferon, 33, of Farmington after she refused to stop for police on Thursday while driving a maroon colored Ford F150 pickup in the parking lot of Disc Golf on Hansonville Road.
Hefferon was spotted speeding north on the Maine Turnpike driving a red Chevrolet Silverado with yellow work lights and New Hamshire plates weaving in and out of traffic around 11:20 a.m. near Exit 40 for Route 1 in Scarborough. Maine State Police ended their pursuit due to traffic congestion but another trooper picked it up ten miles to the north near Exit 52 for the Falmouth Spur.
Hefferon crossed over into the westbound lanes using a crossover and struck a Honda CRV with Massachusetts plates head on. Her male passenger was injured and taken to Maine Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
The three adults in the Honda were also hospitalized.
Hefferon was also brought to Maine Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. She was charged with eluding, violation of conditions of release, operating without a license, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, driving to endanger, and receiving stolen property.
Police are asking anyone who saw the Silverado driving erratically in Scarborough, Portland, or Falmouth please to call them at 207-624-7076.
The crash closed the westbound lanes of the spur forcing traffic off the roadway.
