You Could Be Fined If You Don’t Mow Your Lawn In This Maine Town

Is it just me, or does this seem just a little bit excessive?

According to News Center Maine, homeowners in the northern Maine town of Millinocket could get into some big trouble if they let their lawns go. The town's new code enforcement officer has decided to crack down on people who aren't mowing lawns, and has begun sending letters to those who's grass is more than 10 inches long.

In the letter, the news station reported, folks are told that they have 30 days to take care of their grass, or they'll be issued a summons to appear in court to pay a fine.

Richard Angotti, who became Millinocket's code enforcement officer earlier this year, said that it's about keeping pests like ticks out of people's lawn, according to News Center Maine.. But he adds that it's also about town pride.

The news station reported that he wants people who are visiting from out of town to think of Millinocket as a well-groomed community.

Apparently the law has been on the books for a while, but hadn't been enforced until recently.
