Because of a proposed rule change by the federal government, you may see your SNAP (supplemental nutrition assistance program) benefits revoked. The change would reportedly affect older Mainers, children and those with disabilities.

According to WMTW, the US Department of Agriculture would like to restrict states' ability to increase income asses eligibility limits for the SNAP program. What that basically means is, people who are qualifying now, would not qualify after the (and if) the rules change.

The USDA indicates that it would save billions of dollars if the change were to go through. They are scheduled to take comments in regards to the potential rule change on September 23rd. Maine Governor Janet Mills has joined 16 other Governors in sending letters to the USDA opposing the change.
