5 New England Locations on Top List of Where Homes Are Selling the Fastest in the U.S.

It's not a big surprise to people in New England to hear all about how hot the real estate market is in the region. Since the pandemic, people from across the country (and the world) have had their eyes and wallets locked on New England as a long term escape from big city life. A recent list released details the 50 towns and cities where homes are selling the fastest nationwide, and five places in New England are absolutely scorching hot.

Portland, Maine

• Total homes sold: 567
• Median sale price: $435,000

People who live in Maine won't find Portland's inclusion on the list as any surprise. The real estate market in Portland has been electric for years, with homes disappearing off the market almost instantaneously. The heat on the Portland housing market has started to effect some surrounding towns and cities. It hasn't been quite enough to add any other place in Maine to this list.

Springfield, Massachusetts

• Total homes sold: 586
• Median sale price: $305,000

Known as the birthplace of both Dr. Seuss and the game of basketball, Springfield has gone through a renaissance of sorts in recents from worn-down city to a vibrant place in high demand. Houses are selling faster in Springfield than they do in Portland, Maine, and Springfield is starting to become a place of sound investments for frugal Massachusetts residents.

Worcester, Massachusetts

• Median sale price: $375,000

Worcester has billed itself as the country's most vibrant and livable mid-sized city. The marketing seems to be working. About one out of every five people in Worcester is a college student, and that collegiate energy can be found thorough Worcester in hip restaurants, bars, and shops. Homes are flying off the market at reasonable prices by Massachusetts standards, and similar to Springfield, the renaissance is on in Worcester.

Boston, Massachusetts

If you're willing to live in a place filled with highway mazes, Boston is still one of the best big cities in America to call home. The real estate market bears that out, as Boston saw more than 3,300 home sales last year. Not only that, the median price may be more affordable than people outside of Boston realize. Boston's recently redeveloped seaport district is helping.

Barnstable Town, Massachusetts

Barnstable remains a key cog to Cape Cod lifestyle in Massachusetts, with its multiple villages combining to draw in droves of visitors every year. With plenty of presidential history enriched in the town, the real estate market remains stronger than ever thanks to the desire to be on Cape Cod. Homes were off the market in just over two weeks at high median prices, making Barnstable one of the hottest real estate markets in the country.
