Aerosmith Guitarist Joe Perry ‘Alert and Responsive’ in Hospital
Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry's press representatives have released a statement addressing his reported hospitalization and providing an update. The legendary musician is "alert and responsive" after collapsing last night at Madison Square Garden. He had just finished performing onstage with Billy Joel. Read their statement in full below.
Following a guest performance during Billy Joel's show last night at Madison Square Garden, Joe Perry experienced shortness of breath and was treated backstage by paramedics who gave the guitarist oxygen and used a tracheal tube to clear his airway before taking him to a hospital. This morning Perry remains in the hospital where he is alert and responsive. The Aerosmith guitarist will be unable to appear today at Rock And Roll Fantasy Camp in Florida and apologizes to those attending. Perry is expected to return to the road later this month.
In 2016, Perry collapsed onstage during a Hollywood Vampires show. Although it was initially reported that he suffered cardiac arrest, it was later revealed that a combination of "dehydration and exhaustion" that lead to his unstable condition.
Perry is 68 years old. He has performed on every Aerosmith album with the exception of Rock in a Hard Place. He is regarded as one of the most important guitar players of all time.
