American Air Says No More Direct Flights From Maine to New York
American Airlines just announced that it is discontinuing all non stop flights from Maine to New York City. This will effect both of Maines two large international airports in Portland and also Bangor as of Jan 4th 2022 according to a report by Mainebiz.
It's not just Maine that is being singled out, 27 different flight routes are being effected that serve New York City, even a popular shuttle service between Boston and LaGuardia.
In the report, American Airlines indicated that they are "optimizing its flying schedule to better connect customers with the destinations that are most important to them" as stated by a spokesperson in the report.
When the Portland Jetport was approached for comment on the situation, they did acknowledge that they are aware of the changes but, also noted that Delta Airlines is adding additional flights for that route for the first few months on 2022.
Also another airline, JetBlue announced last month that they plan to offer direct flights from Portland to LaGuardia this coming summer.
So it appears that the gaps will be filled by other airlines, but if you are loyal to American, or have your frequent flier miles with them, you will certainly feel the pinch having to locate connecting flights.
