Every night Mark settles into bed with his cell phone while I brush my teeth and make my final rounds. He visits WBLM.com to see what I've been up to and then checks out Loudwire.com for rock news. But now that I have read an article saying that we should NOT be doing that, he will have to learn to unwind with a Sudoku book.

Hey! Don't sleep with your roommate and don't sleep with your cell phone! Here's why:

  • Is giving off a "small" amount of radiation really safe? Dunno' for sure. The World Health organization listed smartphones as a "possible" carcinogen that can be especially dangerous to kids since their skulls are thinner and let more radiation through. Yikes.
  • That "blue light" that cell phones and tablets give off is a wavelength similar to sunlight. TOO similar! It can mess with your sleep by making your body think it's daytime.
  • If you stare at your phone before trying to go to sleep your body will create less melatonin. By the way, that's not the stuff in your body that makes you tan, it's the hormone that makes you sleepy. You want that to go to sleep. Don't screw it up by playing Candy Crush.
  • Last, but not least, you could set your bed on fire! A girl in Texas fell asleep with her phone under her pillow and woke up to smoke. Part of her pillow melted, her sheets burned and she scorched her mattress! Another woman in England fell asleep on her iPhone while it was charging and severely burned her boob. Save the ta-tas, don't sleep with your cell phone!

My work here is done. I'm going to pick up some Crossword and Soduko mags for Mark on my way home.

Do you sleep with your phone? Will you stop doing that now? Leave a comment on our fan Page #sleepingwithmyphone, or tweet us.

I give off no blue light or radiation, and when it comes to melatonin, I'm aces.
