You've heard the saying "As Maine goes, so goes the nation." Is that true? Well, it USED to be. Maine's election of governor predicted the party outcome for 22 out of 29 elections starting back in 1820. That's where the "...as Maine goes" moniker came from. Recently, however, our track record has not been so good.

Here's Maine's voting history going back to 1972.

1972-Maine voted Republican and the Republican Nixon won the race.

1976-Maine voted Republican but Jimmy Carter won the race.

1980-Maine voted Republican and Reagan won the race.

1984-Maine voted Republican and Reagan won the race.

1988-Maine voted Republican and Geroge Bush won the race.

1992-Maine voted Democrat and Clinton won the race.

1996-Maine voted Democrat and Clinton won the race.

2000-Maine voted Democrat and George Bush won the race

2004-Maine voted Democrat and George Bush won the race

2008-Mane voted Democrat and Obama won the race

2012 Maine voted Democrat and Obama won the race

2016-Maine voted Democrat and Trump won (Trump did win the 2nd district in Maine)

So Maine has chosen the candidate that won the National race 8 out of the last 12 times. Not bad but not a lock like Ohio has been.

Wherever you are and whoever your candidate is, make sure you get out and vote on Election Day. Polls in Maine open anywhere between 6 am and 10 am and all polls close at 8 pm. If you're not registered, no problem, as long as you have ID and proof of residency, you can same-day register in our great state. If you've already voted-good for you!!
