A man who approached a food truck in a retailer's parking lot with a knife was shot late Friday afternoon.

Sanford Police said witnesses told them the man was standing in the intersection of Main Street (Route 109) and Lebanon Street (Route 202) around 3:50 p.m., holding a knife and yelling at passing vehicles. The man walked towards the truck parked in at the T-Mobile store, which led to a confrontation with the owner of the truck, and the man shot.

Police did not disclose who fired the shot.

The man with the knife was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he is in serious condition. The food truck owner is cooperating with police, according to the department.

Sanford Police said there is no threat to the public. The identities of both individuals were not disclosed.
