We usually do the show live from our Gritty's LA Studio in Auburn on the last Friday of the month. When my friend Greg Martens called and asked if the broadcast could move up a week to welcome a very special guest, we were more than happy to oblige!

Portland's pied piper of parties, Greg Martens has been helping hungry kids in Maine for many years now. His benefits have raised over $100,000 worth of food. The next big bash is on Friday May 20 at Portland House of Music and Events (PHOME) to launch an effort called Go Big for Hunger.  Go Big For Hunger is a newly formed restaurant and live music fueled anti-childhood hunger organization. 100% of the money raised by Go Big is being donated through Preble Street to agencies across Maine feeding hungry Maine kids. Maine's number of kids living with food insecurity is staggering, among the highest in the nation, 1 in 4 kids is living with hunger. The Go Big For Hunger concept is restaurants adding a line to guest checks for customers to add a small donation. So far Gritty's is committed, as is Great Lost Bear and Jimmy The Greeks. This is all brand new!  Also Go Big For Hunger will raise money through concerts, like this one. John Popper, lead singer of Blues Traveler, is returning to Portland next Friday (5/20) to perform with local bands and musicians at Portland House of Music. It's a benefit concert and the launch for Go Big For Hunger.

Pretty exciting and meaningful stuff goin' here, so you can see why we moved up the Friday Griity's broadcast in Auburn to May 20th. Blues Traveler's John Popper will be live on-air for a Go Big for Hunger Pre-Party between 2p and 6p! Also joining us will be Dave Gutter and Anna Lombard...hopefully we can convince all three to do a number for us. See you there!

Watch this moving performance of The Mountains Win Again from Greg Marten's 50th Birthday Celebration at Port City Music Hall.

Go Big For Hunger launch concert featuring John Popper; Pardon Me, Doug, and The Maine Dead Project (together and alone); Jason Spooner Band; The Raging Brass Reggae with John Popper and Comedy by Kimmy, plus surprise guests.
