According to News Center Maine, a French drug manufacturer is close to developing a  vaccine against Lyme Disease. This is big news to Mainers who seem to be losing the battle against ticks. The drug would not protect against all tick born-illnesses but would at least protect against Lyme Disease.

After the first phase of clinical trials in Europe, the drug has no side effects and is about 96% effective.

The notoriously slow F.D.A.,  (that usually takes about 15 years to approve new drugs), is said to be expediting the Lyme vaccine because it shows so much promise.

VLA15 is expected to be affordable and possibly available by 2024.
