Sears continues to struggle to stay afloat in a changing retail landscape. It announced yesterday another round of 63 closings of Sears and Kmarts across the country. The good news is none of those closings will be in Maine. The nearest stores to close will be in Peabody and Springfield Massachusetts.

Maine hasn't been immune to previous closings however. In 2012 the Sears at the Lewiston Mall was closed followed by locations at the Bangor Mall in 2016 and Augusta in 2017. The Kmart in Bangor, which is also owned by Sears Holdings, was a victim to downsizing in 2016.

Only two full service Sears stores remain in Maine, one at the Maine Mall in South Portland and the other at Cooks Corner in Brunswick. Four Kmarts remain in Auburn, Augusta, Waterville and Madawaska.
