A Maine staple, Bob's Clam Hut, is set to switch hands.  The local favorite has been around for 64 years,  serving the best fresh seafood with heaping baskets of deep fried goodness, delicious lobster and my personal favorite...the creamy clam chowder and crispy fries.

Bob Kraft opened his hut on a piece of property on an" unused stretch of his parent’s backyard adjacent to the Spruce Creek clam flats in 1956."

Customers say that a trip to Maine is not complete without a stop at this local landmark on Route 1.  This original location was not just a place to eat delicious food, but a place that genuinely spread joy.   They even donated tips to area charities.

The Hut was so popular that a Portland, ME branch was opened back in 2018 but closed shop earlier this year.  Mainebiz.com says a sign was placed on the door back in March reading:

“Bob’s has an ownership change in the works that we are very excited about. However, the new owners are only purchasing Bob’s Kittery location so we wouldn’t be able to run Portland as a Bob’s once the sale is complete. It didn’t make sense to keep going.”

Seacoast Online is reporting that the Kittery location will now have a new owner.  First Serve Hospitality Group, who own Robert's Maine Grill, is set to purchase Bob's Clam Hut with the deal closing on June 30th.

The original has passed hands before.  In 1986, it was purchased by Michael Landgarten.   Landgarten tells Seacoast Online:

“First Serve intends to keep all the wonderful Bob’s staff and are excited about the opportunity to own this cherished institution. "

Still, Landgarten is sad to see it go, telling Seacoast Online:

"I have only inadequate words to express what the journey has been like and how much gratitude I feel. I will miss Bob’s and sincerely hope what has made Bob’s so magical for guests, staff and community continues.”

We do too!
