For nearly two years, residents of Saco and Biddeford have been teased with the notion of a new Chipotle location arriving along Route 1. When Krispy Kreme went out of business, social media was abuzz that Chipotle would be moving into the vacated space. Instead, that space was transformed into a new location of Chase Bank. Eventually, news broke that Chipotle and Jersey Mike's would be coming to Saco, taking over a newly redeveloped location that once housed Pizza Hut. As fans of the fast-casual restaurants have learned, things can take a long time to come together.

According to Saco Bay News, approvals have finally been granted and construction to replace the old Pizza Hut with a new building that will feature Saco's first Chipotle, Jersey Mike's, and one other unknown business can get underway. The timetables for the two restaurants to open appear to be different however.

For Chipotle, their Saco location will include a drive-thru window, something more Chipotle locations have been featuring throughout the country. The plan is to have the Saco Chipotle open by the end of 2022. As for Jersey Mike's, plans will move a little slower, and the latest Maine location of the sandwich franchise plans to open their doors early in 2023.
