Two years ago, the Oxford Hills School and Community Performing Musical Group were just three weeks away from opening night for their performance of All Shook Up. Then the pandemic hit and the show had to be canceled. But the attitude in Oxford Hills was that "the show must go on." It took two years, but it's showtime!

The Oxford Hills School and Community Performing Musical group is made up of students, school faculty and members of the community and has a long history of performing musicals on the stage at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.

I remember a performance years ago of The King and I with the role of King of Siam played by the late Dr. Warren Hazelton. He actually delivered me into the world as he did so many babies born in the Oxford Hills. Dr. Hazelton's performance is one of the most memorable of all the community musicals not only for his acting but for his beautiful singing voice.

It features the music of Elvis and tells the story of a small Midwestern town that sees the arrival of a man named Chad, with a guitar on his back and blue suede shoes. It's a little like Footloose if it was someone like Elvis riling the townspeople up with that Rock 'n Roll music instead of Kevin Bacon teaching everyone to dance and the local preacher having none of it.

A lot of hard work has been put into All Shook Up from the performers, set designers, costume designers and production staff, many of whom wear different hats to make all this happen.

Three shows are scheduled at the Mark S. Eastman auditorium at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. Dates are May 6 and 7 at 7:30 p.m. and a matinee on May 8 at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now for just $12 for adults and $10 for students and seniors and available at The Tribune at 420 Main Street in Norway or at the door, cash only.
