Should Your Maine Kid Have a Snow Day From School Today?

Today is the first snow day of the school year for some Maine students. Here along the coast the snowfall amount was pretty mellow, but the freezing rain made roadways and walkways slushy and slippery. Crews were out cleaning up as best they could, but my kids are still home from school eating cereal in front of the T.V..

Even though a few inches of snow isn't really much, I have to admit that I wouldn't want to send my kids out in this weather to walk to school. The winds are gusty and the snow is flying sideways. After breaking my ankle in the school parking lot last winter because of ice under the snow, I'm a lot more cautious!

Not all schools in our area closed. Should your kid have school today?
