Sunday River ran 32 snow guns and dusted the T2 trail on Locke Mountain on Thursday with the 2014-15 season’s first snow, according to Sunday River spokesman Casey Butler.

The Newry, Maine ski resort was able to get a jump on the ski season because temperatures dipped down to 29 degrees. Ski resort officials also noted Sunday River has used part of its $5 million capital investment package from parent company Boyne Resorts and an Efficiency Maine grant to procure 172 new, energy-efficient snowguns this season.

According to Butler, being able to make snow in September is huge given the fact that Sunday River could not test its snow guns until October a year ago.
