After months of planning and construction, the hotly anticipated new venue formerly known as the Asylum has a new name....and new shows!

Over the weekend, fans of the Portland music scene got an unexpected, but pleasant surprise. The Asylum took to Facebook to announce their new venue name, Aura, along with their first planned show announcements for their forthcoming grand opening. Those shows will include artists like Warrant, Dokken, Local H and Jimmy Eat World.

Initially believed to be renamed Free Street Live, the owners of club have settled on Aura, a rebranding of the Asylum that feels a lot better. The multi-million dollar renovation plan has been in motion for months, and if you've passed by the venue during construction, you've seen the incredible transformation.

The new venue will have additional space, a state-of-the-art sound system, new dressing rooms and what most patrons will initially notice, a balcony level. It's likely to feel a little more like the House of Blues in Boston on a slightly smaller scale. The renovations were needed and will be welcomed with open arms for concert goers statewide.
