Imagine a restaurant that’s so exclusive that the only way to make a reservation is to send in a postcard.

That’s a real thing here in Maine and they put the ‘lost’ in The Lost Kitchen.

The unbelievably exclusive and highly sought-after restaurant has been open for 10 years and due to such high demand, they’ve turned their reservation process into a pretty simple and old-fashioned task: Send a postcard in the mail, cross your fingers, and hope for the best.

The Lost Kitchen in Freedom, Maine

If you’re like many I know and have been trying to get a spot here for years or you’re just now hearing about it and your interest is piqued, go buy a postcard, get a stamp, and send it now!

The famous restaurant is now accepting postcards for their 2023 season and will pull the first lucky diners on April 1. This is a luck-of-the-draw system, so don’t get your hopes up!

This may seem silly to others but I think it’s a beautiful thing. My favorite part of their website is this quote here:

“Dinner can be so much more than a meal. Here, it’s a moment and a feeling. It is warmth. It’s a memory in a space created with love and intention.”

You may think this is a wee bit dramatic but I actually teared up when I first spotted that on their lovely site. My grandma passed away and our favorite, special thing to do together was to go out for a meal. Our delicate time shared in restaurants together are fond memories I cherish and feel with me in every new experience I have now.

Dinner truly is more than just eating. It is an experience.

An experience is exactly what The Lost Kitchen provides and is worth the nail-biting wait as you pray your phone rings in the spring and that your postcard is chosen.

For more information on how to make a reservation, you can find everything you need on their website.

Part of me didn’t want to spill this secret with you all so that I had a better chance of getting my postcard chosen but this is worth the share.

Now hurry up and send in that postcard.

Good luck!
