9/15/1962 (54 years ago today) - No wonder Beatlemania happened, really: Today marks the start of a five week run at No. 1 on the singles chart for The Four Seasons with the fingernails-on-the-chalkboard classic "Sherry" -- The group becomes the first American band to have three Number One's in succession(!): "Sherry" was followed by chart-toppers "Big Girls Don't Cry" [Oct., '62] and "Walk Like A Man"  [Jan., '63]. Never cared for the wince-inducing falsetto braying of Mr. Valli, sorry...

9/15/1965 (51 years ago today) - The Ford Motor Company becomes the first automaker to offer an 8-track tape player as an entertainment option for their entire line of vehicles on sale in the U.S. Since 8-track home equipment was still a year away, however, the only place to buy actual 8-track tapes was at your local auto parts store. We think this had to have been good for the looks on clerks faces when you went to make your purchase...

9/15/1979 (37 years ago today) - Considering the intensity of their initial run of albums, from the debut up to "Physical Graffiti", well, maybe this was as far as they were meant to go...: Led Zeppelin score their sixth U.S. No. 1 album on this date with "In Through The Out Door", which spends seven weeks in a row at the top spot. Lotta behind-the-scenes turmoil for this last studio effort, too -- Robert Plant and his wife had been in a serious car accident, followed by the death of their young son Karac to a stomach illness. In addition, the band was publicly growing weary about their dealings with record companies and various associates; the album reflected this discontent, and they sounded noticeably less energized when compared to their previous stellar works. All good things...
