Did you know Portland hosts one of the oldest and coolest road races in the US? True, and it's happening this Sunday!  It's the 86th annual Patriots Day 5-Miler. This fantastic race is put on by the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southern Maine Alumni Association, and it truly is one of the coolest races around. Why? Well, for one it's not a 5K...it's 5 MILES, which is kind of a rarity. Then there's the fact that you get to run around Portland. Through the city, around Baxter Boulevard, up 295 and back in to town. Sweet.

Finally run this one because, it's for one of the best causes around-The Boys and Girls Clubs of Southern Maine. This is the oldest race in Maine and one of the oldest in the country. It's a great way to kick off YOUR race season....even if you just run for fun like me. Oh, and by the way-it's much cheaper than many of the races you'll enter this year. Only 18 bucks if you register ahead of the race. 22 bucks on Race Day...which is this Sunday.

According to bgcmaine.com: "First 300 registered receive a race shirt. Each runner receives a game ticket to the Sea Dogs game on Saturday, 4/25, entry in a raffle to win Red Sox tickets, free pizza + more. The race has net timing (chip at the start + finish), custom race bibs and awards for 1st, 2nd + 3rd place finishers in each age group. The race supports college scholarships for deserving high school seniors associated with Boys & Girls Clubs." Now, go run!
