Man this is a bummer to see. Another longtime local favorite is leaving us. The very popular Portland-based Izzy's Cheesecake is going out of business.

According to a post from the owners last night on their Facebook page, they are closing effective immediately. This an unhappy surprise to me.

I'll always fondly remember the deliciousness of Izzy's one-of-a-kind Kahlua Mocha and Maine Blueberry Swirl cheesecakes. My wife and I were fortunate to live nearby Izzy's headquarters on Walton St in Portland when we lived in Woodford's Corner in the early 1990s. No question, these were the freshest, creamiest and most flavorful cheesecakes we ever tasted.

I also had the honor of joining David 'Izzy' Izenstatt with some friends for the trek to Highgate Vermont in the summer of 1995 to see the Grateful Dead. We camped together on the banks of Lake Champlain and Izzy graciously kept us all fed. As you can imagine, this crew had quite a case of the munchies.

Great memories with Izzy, he is a wonderful big-hearted human being. We wish him nothing but the best moving forward. Thanks for the ridiculously yummy desserts over years. We are very sad to see this come to end. Hopefully something new and amazing will grow out of this goodbye.
