It was a Thursday night in front of a sold-out crowd at the Cumberland County Civic Center. Steven Tyler collapsed on stage which brought the show to a halt.
Today we look back to one of the last Maine shows of the 1970s with the original line-up of Aerosmith. It's also the anniversary of a 1982 Portland concert without guitarists Brad Whitford and Joe Perry. Both shows happened on November 19th at the Civic Center.
On November 6, 1970, took the show out of the rehearsal space and on the road for their inaugural appearance at Nipmuc Regional High School in Mendon, Massachusetts. Nipmuc will forever be in the history books as the coolest high school in America. Freakin’ Aerosmith played there, man! BTW, tickets were like $1.25 in advance $2.50 at the door…crazy right?
It's the 32nd Anniversary of the Permanent Vacation tour live at the Civic Center for the first time. Aerosmith showed Maine lots of love during their sober comeback with a couple nights in Portland on October 27 and 28 1987.
We remember Guns N’ Roses was scheduled to open this Portland show on August 19, 1988. As fate would have it, they became headliners that summer and were all done as the warm-up act from then on.
