Aquaboggan to the rescue!

After 83 years the old Saco Drive-In on Route 1 closed. The property was sold last year, and all of New England was so bummed. That is until Aquaboggan Water Park across the street said, we gotchu. They brought them over to Aquaboggan!

They will be open at least Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through June, starting May 26 with a double feature – 'The Super Mario Bros. Movie' and “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish'. They might extend that! The tradition lives on! It's one of the country's oldest (could be second-oldest) drive-ins!

Bud Hurst, owner of Aquaboggan and the Saco Drive-In, said in a statement Thursday,

While we intend to honor as much Saco Drive-In history as possible, the reality is that there are many issues with age, condition, and feasibility of moving many of those pieces, even just across Route 1. The process of evaluating the items continues even as we start the projector this year.

That's okay Bud, we get it! We love that you are doing as much as you can! Just saving it is enough for the thousands of people who were so sad to see it close!

The Portland Press Herald reported that the new location can hold 175 cars, compared to 300 to 350 across the street. They started with less to see what works best. Meanwhile, Aquaboggan will open for the season on June 24. If you have to pee, you can use Aquaboggan bathrooms and to kick it all off there will be a food truck.

Welcome back Saco Drive-In and THANK YOU Aquaboggan Water Park!
