Massachusetts Sells the Least Expensive Wine in the Entire Country
So where does the rest of New England stand on this cheapest wine scale? I personally was shocked that the least expensive state for wine is in New England, but here we are, and YAY.
According to House Method, the Bay State is where you want to shop for wine. It's not just the cheapest in New England, but the entire country. What a fun fact, right?
Yes, you can find wine in varying prices depending on what you want and how much you want to spend. Wine aficionados even look for deals and will 'unsplurge' on cheaper wine, too. I know plenty who spend depending on occasion and reason.
So if you have lots of wine to buy, live in or near the Massachusetts border, or plan to be in Massachusetts for any reason at all, then add buying wine to your to-do list. Now, I'm not talking specific stores, but rather entire states. Talk about one-stop shopping.
House Method says that the average bottle of wine in Massachusetts costs $10.97. Honestly, I'm not sure I've ever paid under $15. And are you ready for this super random fun fact? Mississippi is the most expensive at $15.51 on average for a bottle of wine. I mean, what the what?!?
Now, I know the difference isn't huge over all, but when you're trying to save money, we know that every bit helps.
Okay, now let's break it down with white and red wines as well.
When it comes to white wines, Massachusetts is also the cheapest with $7.97 on average. That said, if you're only interested in red, then the least expensive New England state is actually Rhode Island, but only by a few cents at $14.82. Massachusetts and Connecticut are next, tied at $14.97.
New Hampshire and Maine are among the more expensive states to buy red in New England (and the country for the matter), but in the middle of the road when it comes to white.
House Method's research included digging into prices from national and regional retailers in up to 10 zip codes in each state.
