The Cumberland County Civic Center hosted the first event on March 3, 1977. It’s really awesome that the first event was a capacity crowd, rock concert with ZZ Top. Just over two months later, the second sold-out rock show happened at the new venue.  It was a night with Boston!

Nine months earlier, they released their first album which broke sales records and went on to be one of the biggest debut albums of all time.  On May 10, 1977, Blimpsters had the mind-blowing live experience of hearing epic songs like Foreplay/LongtimePeace of Mind and More Than a Feeling! And that’s just side one!  The classic line-up of Tom Scholz, Sib Hashian, Barry Goudreau, Fran Sheehan and Brad Delp live onstage at the CCCC...so epic!

Every track on this album is killer…no filler. It’s still highly regarded as an essential album in any classic rock record collection.

We hear they opened with this one...what an historic night of rock for Blimpsters!

While we're here, let's bask in the magnificence that is the official video for More Than a Feeling.

Their first Maine appearance was at the Central Maine Youth Center in Lewiston on October 17, 1976 opening for Blue Oyster Cult. This was just two months after the release of their eponymous debut.

The original, classic line-up of Boston returned to Portland at the Civic Center one last time on December 12, 1978 in support of Don't Look Back with Sammy Hagar opening. They played a month earlier in my hometown!
