Blimp Time-Hop: AC/DC Sellout CCCC Again In 1986
33 years ago today, it was another sell-out show for AC/DC at the Civic Center. This was their second ever appearance in Portland. The first AC/DC show happened in our city on November 24, 1985 on the Fly on the Wall tour. In fact every AC/DC show ever in Portland was a sell-out, including the last time they rocked the CCCC in March of 1996.
The concert we’re commemorating was on September 16, 1986. This was the Back in Black line-up with the exception of Phil Rudd on drums, who left the band in 1983 during the recording of Flick the Switch. Phil was replaced by 20 year old drummer, Simon Wright.
AC/DC was touring in support of their (kinda sorta) greatest hits album, Who Made Who which was also the soundtrack to Stephen King’s Maximum Overdrive movie. Wonder if Maine’s King of Horror was in the audience that night? We 'bout 'magine.
We know the date below says the show was on the 14th. According to our official book of Cumberland County Civic Center Concerts in Chronological Order, it was a sold-out show on the 16th with the band Loudness opening.
Here's the official video for Who Made Who with that awesome guitar army of Angus clones.
