34 years ago, Billy Joel returned to the Civic Center here in Portland for the third time and a third sold-out show.   He had previously visited us here in Vacationland at the end of the 1970s and in in the mid 1980s. Billy Joel's first concert in Maine was on April 13, 1979 at the CCCC.  His second trip here was on January 20, 1984.

On January 30, 1987, Billy came back to Blimpville in support of his latest album The Bridge featuring his Top 10 hit Matter of Trust.

This was just prior to his historic concerts in Russia that summer. Watch Billy step away from the piano bench and strap on a guitar for A Matter of Trust.

Music transcends everything and connects all humans with love and truth. We could stand to get back great moments like this.

We were also fortunate to have Billy back in Maine two more times after that in September of ’93 and January of ’98. The ’98 show happened while we were still reeling from the devastating effects of the Ice Storm. I guess a lil’ weathah can’t keep us away from the Piano Man. Both of those shows were sell-outs as well.

Here's what he played the last time he was in Maine. It's been 23 years. Our fingers are crossed wicked tight for a return someday when it's safe to rock out in a big crowd.  We're really not that far from NYC, Billy. Come on back, guy!
