Blimp Time-Hop: Ozzy Returns To Maine After Randy’s Plane Crash
37 years ago today, Ozzy Osbourne played his second show at the Civic Center. This time missing his very close friend and music partner, guitarist Randy Rhoads. It was the Diary of a Madman tour making a stop in Portland on May 22,1982. Tragically, Randy was killed in a plane crash two months earlier in Florida.
Guitarist Brad Gillis of Night Ranger stepped up for the understandably tough gig and joined Ozzy for the rest of the dates. A show on the tour was recorded at the Ritz in NYC and released as the Speak of the Devil live album.
Here's what melted faces at the CCCC that night!
Watch Ozzy with Brad Gillis on guitar doing Randy proud live in 1982 just a few weeks after the Portland!
WBLM welcomes back Brad Gillis with Night Ranger on Sunday May 26 at the Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion. They are opening the show for Sammy Hagar and the Circle. What a perfectly rockin' way to kick off summertime up heah!
The Ozzy Osbourne concert originally expected for this summer in Bangor has been rescheduled for Saturday June 13, 2020 at Darling's Waterfront Pavilion. This will be his 9th and quite possibly last Maine appearance, so we probably oughta get after it.
