Blimp Time-Hop: Stevie Nicks/Joe Walsh Live At The Civic Center
37 years ago today, Stevie Nicks played a sold-out show at the Civic Center. This was really more of a double-bill with Joe Walsh opening the show. Stevie was on tour promoting her album, The Wild Heart and had just debuted new songs at the US Festival earlier that year in May.
Joe was on tour promoting his new album, You Bought It, You Name It. That one featured the songs Space Age Whiz Kids and I.L.B.T. (hee, hee).
An important development to note is, as the tour continued into 1984 Joe and Stevie apparently became romantically involved. We remember hearing that Stevie was once quoted as saying that Joe was “the great love of her life.” Awwww.
It was September 8, 1983 and a packed house in Portland for Stevie Nicks and Joe Walsh.
Take a look at the list of songs from Stevie on her first trip to Portland, Maine. There's plenty of Mac in there too.
This was the first of four live on stage appearances by Stevie Nicks in Maine.
She returned solo to the Civic Center on July 27, 1986 and with Fleetwood Mac on November 11, 1990. There was also a big summer Mac show at the Ballpark (aka SEAPAC) in Old Orchard Beach on July 14, 1990.
Joe Walsh was back on this date for his second of three shows in the 1980s at the CCCC. His first Portland concert was on June 28, 1981 and the third one happened on July 30, 1985. The last time Joe rocked us live here, was at the Maine State Pier on July 28, 2016.
Let's celebrate the 37th anniversary of this epic night in Portland concert history with Stevie and Joe live at the US Festival on Memorial Day weekend in 1983.
