40 years ago this week, Styx brought their Paradise Theatre Tour to Portland. It was a sold out show at the Civic Center on April 19,1981. Paradise Theatre was the biggest hit album ever for Styx, going to number 1. The record went on to be their fourth consecutive multi-platinum.

This was the second and last Styx concert ever at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

Here's everything they played for us young Mainers as spring was really beginning to burst around here.

The Tommy Shaw song Too Much Time on My Hands went all the way to the Top 10 in The USA in 1981. This great remains a staple on WBLM today and always turns whatever room it's playing in, into a dancefloor.

We’ve "got nothing to do and all day to do it!"

And who can forget Jimmy Fallon as Dennis DeYoung and Paul Rudd as Tommy Shaw in this wicked funny re-creation of the video.

Here's a side by side of the original from Styx and Fallon/Rudd's masterful impersonation.

Styx did return Portland one more time. That concert was in 2004 at Merrill Auditorium.

We count a total of 9 trips to Maine for Styx from 1977 to 2017. Bangor has had the most shows with 5. Portland had 3. Augusta hosted 1 appearance by Styx at the Augusta Civic Center on the Pieces Of Eight Tour in 1978.
