Today’s Blimp Time-Hop: Jethro Tull’s 1st CCCC Show Is a Sellout
41 years ago today, Jethro Tull played their first show at the newly opened Civic Center. This was on the Songs from the Wood tour, masterfully blending folk rock and hard rock for a sold-out Portland crowd.
Mandolins and lutes joined guitars, drums and flutes to bring back some ancient magic to the holiday season, along with those intricate prog melodies.
Check out what Jethro Tull played at their Civic Center debut. They would return 4 more times from 1979 to 1991.
Check out this live TV performance from 1977. It starts with glorious madrigal harmonies and is led by the great Ian Anderson "with kitchen prose and gutter rhymes" into a kick-ass classical jam!
And here's the entire concert from the week before the November 27,1977 Portland show at the Capital Centre in Landover, MD!
