Tommy’s Coffee Break Calendar for June 19th
Two of the best ever singles, one from the '60's, one from the '70's, and props for a musician you've probably never heard of...
6/19/1965 (55 years ago today) - The Four Tops hit No. 1 with the brilliantly infectious single "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)" -- Hard to believe, but lead singer Levi Stubbs was not very happy with the way it sounded and was promised another recording session scheduled for the next day so he could do it all over -- That session never took place, and the track that became a hit was, in fact, just the second take of the song!!! 6/19/1971 (49 years ago today) - Carole King kicks off a five-week run at No. 1 on the singles chart with "It's Too Late"/"I Feel The Earth Move", both off her super-nova "Tapestry" LP which went on to become one of the best-selling albums in entertainment history (25 million sold worldwide, 10 million in the U.S. alone) with Rolling Stone ranking it No. 36 on their "500 Greatest Albums Of All Time" -- One of those records you would find in everybody's home, no matter where you lived or what you did for work, we all had a copy of "Tapestry", that's just the way it was. Remarkable really...

Now that you know, give 'em a listen, it's refreshing stuff...
