42 years ago today, Billy Joel performed live in Maine for the very first time at the Civic Center in Portland.  He was on tour promoting his latest album 52nd Street which followed up his massive breakthrough The Stranger.

WBLM was spinning the ‘new’ tracks like My Life and Big Shot as well as deeper cuts like Stiletto and Zanzibar. The Cumberland County Civic Center was packed to capacity on April 13, 1979 for the Piano Man and top-notch his band.

We can't seem to find the setlist from Billy's first Cumberland County Civic Center show. Here's what he played the next night in Providence, Rhode Island. It is highly likely that this selection from his growing catalog was very similar to what they played the night before in Portland.

This was the first of 5 total appearances in Maine from 1979 to 1998. All of them happened at Portland’s biggest venue, the CCCC. All of them were sold-out shows.

Thanks for all the love, Billy. When it's safe to go to concerts again, please come back and see us in Maine again someday. I've got a good feeling those tickets would gone as soon as the went on sale too.

On  August 4, 2021, Billy Joel is scheduled to rock Fenway Park for the seventh summer in a row. This date was rescheduled from August 2020.

Let's watch Billy killin' it live in Houston on 1979's 52nd Street Tour. If you have the time to enjoy the whole show, you can. Because it's all right here. So here we go!
