According to the Portland Press Herald, Maine Senators Susan Collins and Angus King want to celebrate one of our state's biggest money makers with a national holiday. A resolution was presented by the senators to establish National Lobster Day on September 25th.

Maine has a reputation for providing the tastiest lobster in the world. Lobstering has generations of tradition here, and economically our yearly take from Maine lobster is somewhere around $500 million. That's one of the biggest money makers in the country! Tourists come to eat it, boosting our economy, and many Mainers are employed as lobster fisherman, lobster processors and dealers.

Senators Collins and King have also been working at protecting our fishing grounds by rallying against offshore drilling in the Gulf of Maine.

Other New England states are signing on to the resolution of National Lobster day too.
